Temperament/Character
Pembroke Welsh Corgis were originally used as sheep/cattle herders and guardians of the home. They are loyal, playful and love their family.
Corgis are dependable and very fun loving. They do well with other dogs, pets and children they have been raised with. They exhibit an expression of interest, intelligence and animation.
They also excel in agility, obedience and are good working and therapy dogs
Corgis and their coat
Welsh Pembroke Corgis have a double coat. The outer coat is long, course and straight with longer thicker hair around the neck, chest and shoulders.
The weather resistant undercoat is short and thick which is why they can live or play outside all day.
It is good to groom them everyday with a firm bristle brush. Keep bathing to a minimum. Soap removal is difficult because of the thick undercoat.
Corgis are happy
People enjoy the energy and enthusiasm of their Corgis. Welsh Pembroke Corgis thrive with adequate exercise and mental stimulation.
They are relatively sensitive and you can easily hurt their feelings so be kind and patient in disciplining them.
Corgis learn quickly and praise brings them a long way.
